The famous Whistler’s Mother painting by the American-born painter James McNeill Whistler has adorned a new one-ounce pure silver coin. The new coin is the fourth release of the increasingly popular Treasures of the World Series, which is dedicated to covering the most recognized paintings in the world.

The reverse of the new coin features a beautiful colored image of the Whistler’s Mother painting. Like the previous releases of the series, the square shape of the coin and its outside rim that resembles a frame give the coin a better illustration of the painting.

The obverse of the coin displays an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse includes the inscription "NIUE ISLAND", the issuing country of the coin, along with the year of issue, 2019, and the monetary denomination of the coin, 1 dollar.
This coin is struck in .999 pure silver. It has a limited mintage of only 999 coins.

Described as an American Icon, the Whistler’s Mother has been described as a Victorian Mona Lisa. It has been bought by the French State and is held at by the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
