In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the construction of Saint Lawrence Seaway, the Royal Canadian Mint has released a new 2 oz silver coin featuring the seaway.

The reverse of the new coin features a head-on view of an eastbound bulk carrier (laker) transiting through the St. Lambert lock, with the Montréal skyline visible in the distance. The design includes a split maple leaf and star that represents a binational partnership between Canada and the United States. An anchor chain forms the rim like corrugated denticles, symbolizing strength and longevity and giving a unique shape to the coin.

The inscriptions "THE ST. LAWRENCE SEAWAY" and "LA VOIE MARITIME DU SAINT-LAURENT" appear on a scrolling banner that also bears a stylized anchor.

The obverse displays a profile of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, along with the monetary denomination of the coin, 30 dollars.

St. Lawrence Seaway is a deep draft waterway extending 3,700 kilometers. It allows vessels to travel from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes of North America.

The new coin is struck in 99.99 pure silver. It has a limited mintage of only 2000 coins.
