The Royal Canadian Mint has released a stunning colored 1 oz pure silver coin featuring a sea otter couple, the third and final coin to the Canadian Fauna coin series, which aims to highlight Canadian species and their habitat and show the softer side of nature through an animal’s display of affection.

The reverse of the new coin feature a cuddling sea otter couple against a beautiful ocean background. The two sea otters appear wrapped in kelp to keep themselves from drifting while they sleep. There are beautiful colored clouds and sky above Canada's Pacific coast in the background of the image. The reverse includes the inscription "CANADA," along with the year of issue of the coin, 2019.

The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, along with monetary denomination of the coin, 20 dollars.

The previous two releases of the Canadian Fauna series featured a polar bear couple, and a fox couple respectively.

Smart, cute and playful, the sea otter are the smallest Canadian mammal and a species to be successfully re-introduced to Pacific waters. They love to eat, sleep, play, and groom while floating on its back.

Whether diving under the waves or wrapping itself in kelp to stay in place, an otter is resourceful but prefers to spend time in a group, even holding paws as they quietly drift off to sleep.

The new coin is struck in 999.9 pure silver with a limited mintage of only 4000 coins.
