RRS Sir David Attenborough vessel has adorned a new 1 oz sterling silver coin from the private British Pobjoy Mint.

The reverse of the coin features the RRS Sir David Attenborough research vessel at sea in the Antarctic with the name RRS Sir David Attenborough shown on the outer edge of the coin. The reverse also includes the monetary denomination of the coin, 2 pounds.

The obverse displays an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

This coin is struck from 28.28g of proof sterling silver. It has a limited mintage of only 2000 pieces.

This coin is also available as Uncirculated Cupro Nickel edition.

RRS Sir David Attenborough is a research vessel owned by the Natural Environment Research Council. It will be operated by the British Antarctic Survey for both research and logistic support. Named after famed broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough, the vessel will replace a pair of existing vessels, RRS James Clark Ross and RRS Ernest Shackleton.
