The famous “Scream” painting by the well-known Norwegian painter Edvard Munch has featured on a one-ounce pure silver coin. The new coin is the second release of the new Treasures of the World series, dedicated to covering three of the most recognized and famous paintings.
The reverse of the new coin features a colored image of the Scream Painting. The square shape of the coin and its outside rim that resembles a frame give the coin a better representation of the painting.
The obverse of the coin displays an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse also includes the inscription "NIUE ISLAND", the issuing country of the coin, along with the year of issue, 2019, and the monetary denomination of the coin, 1 dollar.
The Scream is a name given to the composition created by Munch in 1893. The agonized face in the painting has become one of the most iconic images of art, seen as symbolizing the anxiety of modern man.
The coin is struck in 999 pure silver. It has a limited mintage of only 999 coins.
