The Central Bank of Romania marked late in March the 550th Anniversary of Church Consecration of the Putna Monastery by releasing a new collector gold coin. Built by Stephen the Great, the Putna Monastery is one of the most important religious and cultural centers established in medieval times.

Stephen the Great had built dozens of churches and monasteries in Moldavia, partly present-day Romania. A place of pilgrimage, the Putna Monastery is home to the tombs of Stephen and several of his relatives. Their tombstones are a testament to the Moldavian fine art in the era of Stephen the Great.

The reverse side of the new coin features a modern image of Putna Monastery church. ”ROMANIA” is inscribed above the image of the church and ”PUTNA” underneath it. It further includes the face value of the coin as well as the year of issue, 2019.

The obverse displays a portrait of ruler Ștefan cel Mare, with his name inscribed above and along the rim.

Monetăria Statului produced the new coins in .900 gold on behalf of the National Bank. The new coin has a limited mintage of 500 coins.
