The reverse of the new coin features a serpentine dragon chasing a flaming pearl surrounded by a stylized mist, with the Chinese character for dragon inscribed on the pearl.

The obverse side displays Ian Rank-Broadley's profile of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the monetary denomination, weight, and quality of the metal.

This coin is struck in 99.99 pure silver. It has a limited mintage of 388 coins.

Unlike Western Culture, where dragons are depicted as flying fire-breathing destructive creatures, dragons in China are traditionally considered as a symbol of power, strength and good luck. They symbolize auspicious powers and control over water, rainfall or floods.

The Chinese mythical dragons have several animal-like shapes such as turtles, and Fish, with the most common depiction of the mythical creatures resembling a snake with four legs.
