The Australian Perth Mint has adorned a new 5 oz high relief fine silver coin with the image of the beautiful Australian kookaburra bird.

The reverse side of the new coin features a kookaburra perched on a branch during sunset. The branch is submerged in a river, which is lined with wetland grasses and a gumtree.

The design also includes the inscription "AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA", the 2019 year-date, the weight and fineness, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. The beauty of the design of this coin is enhanced by the high relief strike.

The obverse side features an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, along with the monetary denomination of the coin, 8 dollars.

The new coin is struck in 99.99 pure silver, with a limited mintage of only 500 pieces.

The kookaburras are considered to be an icon of Australia. These birds make their nice ‘laughing’ call at dawn and dusk while perched on tree branches, rooftops or fences to establish territory among family groups.
