In the aftermath of Notre-Dame Cathedral inferno, the Monnaie de Paris has issued new fundraising gold and silver coins with the aim of assisting in the reconstruction efforts of the Notre-Dame Cathedral. A significant portion of the proceeds of the sales will go to the Notre-Dame reconstruction fund.

The 2019-dated coins are a reedition of Notre-Dame coin series released in 2013 to mark the 850th anniversary of the inauguration of the construction of the iconic landmark. The date “15/04/2019” and inscription “Reconstruction” have been added to the original designs.

One of the most symbols of France, the medieval cathedral was engulfed by a major fire on April 15. The spire and roof collapsed, while the main structure has survived. Many believe that it’s unsafe for reconstruction workers to work on the site. There are concerns that rain could further damage the cathedral.

An irrefutable masterpiece of gothic art, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris receives more than 13 million visitors a year from around the world. This extraordinary building with foundations that date back to 1163 has been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
