The Royal Canadian Mint has launched a new collectible series featuring the artwork of award-winning Canadian wildlife artist W. Allan Hancock of preys and predators. Masterfully engraved and plated in gold, every coin in this series features a scene with animals that are characteristic to the Canadian fauna. Each coin is crafted of two ounces of 99.99% pure silver.

The reverse of the first coin of this series has a dynamic composition rich in depth and contrast, with a massive orca occupying the foreground as it cuts through the beautifully rendered waves. Striking as it is, the orca is a vicious hunter, and its hunger is a force to be reckoned with. Upon the rocks behind sit his prey, three sea lions. The background fades into a forest, and the gazing sea lions remain unaware of the danger lurking beneath the water.

The obverse of the new coin displays the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

This coin has a limited mintage of only 2500 pieces.

This series was launched after similar series such as Birds of Prey found a great deal of success and appeal amongst coin collectors. Wildlife is a favorite theme among coin collectors.
